GUWAHATI, Aug 28 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today formally launched the ambitious Employment Generation Mission that seeks to generate employment opportunities for 1.67 lakh people at a cost of Rs 669 crore. The Mission is based on a study on generation of substantial and sustainable employment opportunities in Assam by noted economist Dr Jayanta Madhab. The study also suggested the proposed approach for tackling the unemployment problem.
To start with, the Mission has taken up six projects as per proposals submitted by...ASOMI.

GUWAHATI, Dec 24: Amidst the gloom, there is some light in Assam now. Micro-credit programmes are bringing a ray of hope for the rural populace in the State.
Till a few years back, villagers at Morakalong in Morigaon district thought that they were cursed to face nothing but grim poverty from the day of their birth. But today, the villagers have five community huts to discuss their problems and possible solutions in a common platform. Besides, the villagers own power tillers, pump sets, poultry firms and piggeries.
